I was definitely the youngest person in the room. I was also the only one who'd written a story that was way out there- the instructor referred to it as "magic realism," which I gather is Literary for "HOLY FUCK A GIANT SPIDER EATS EVERYBODY." She told me that it was a brave choice and that the giant spider in question was a metaphor for domestic discontent. I did not know that, because the only outline I had while writing it was "HOLY FUCK A GIANT SPIDER EATS EVERYBODY."
