K-Box cartoon

On fandom:

librarista and I had the following exchange in a friends-locked post on her LJ (QWP):

librarista: I want a happy ending. All this time I thought reading paranormal romances and whatever else were just lowering my standards and tolerance for literature but really what they did was make me need that happy ending. There's a few series I've read and they bother me because all this bad shit keeps falling on the protagonists and it just gets worse and worse and worse with no relief in sight and the end of the books don't offer any resolution so the bad shit carries on to the next one. Drives me crazy. I don't need a pretty bow and marriages and babies but damn, let something positive happen now and then. Wrap up plot lines.

box_in_the_box: With the following tweaks, the above paragraph applies equally to me:

I want a happy ending. All this time I thought reading paranormal romances superhero comic books and whatever else were just lowering my standards and tolerance for literature but really what they did was make me need that happy ending [...]

librarista: Don't you hate it when your escapist literature becomes something you need an escape from?

In my journal:

teenagelogic:
Have you noticed how Colin Firth seems to improve with age? Surely this can only last so long? Will women be dropping dead at the sight of him in forty years' time, or is there a cut-off point?

optional_joy:
Like wine, I guess, he will continue to improve unless he starts to oxidise. I could go into some nonsensical analogy about keeping him properly corked, but that could have some very rude subtext.

Context jumps into ponds in period costume.

Thanks for the nice review, but it was a little weird in your comment that you remarked on how glad you were that the world was becoming more liberal about gay issues, and how it was showing up in fandom.

Hello, this is not the world. This is livejournal. The people here are not exactly representative of The World. If livejournal demographics were the worlds demographics than 50% of the world would be 25 and under, 60% would be gay, 70% would be female, 80% would be agnostic, 90% would have an above-average IQ and 100% would have inferior social skills. So basically, everyone would be Tila Tequila. Oh wait, about that 90%...
